Yesterday I received a message in Health group on WhatsApp

It was about natural painkillers.

 As a doctor I was asked to give my opinion about natural foods as pain killers.

Natural Foods may or may not relieve pain which cannot be measured by any instrument,because pain is a relative phenomenon.

Natural Foods are adept at instilling a Feel Good factor & this can be a reason for relieving the pain.

Foods shared as pain relievers are-

Earache-Garlic

Toothache-Cloves

Heartburn-Apple Cider Vinegar

Chronic pain -Turmeric

Joint pains-Cherries

Sore Muscles-Peppermint

Bloating -Pineapple

Sinus pain-Horseradish

UTI-Blueberries

Injury pain-Water

Let us elaborate one by one

1 ) Cloves do give a relief from toothache & clove oil has been tried and tested by humans during past many generations

2 )Apple Cider Vinegar is an antacid & does not have side effects like PPIs ,now banned in many countries.

3 )Chronic pain Turmeric is well known to all of us and is now sold in capsule form having affordable tiny Nano particles for better absorption-Snec 30 ,a strip of 15 capsules is only 300/- 

Snec 30 is available as an ointment , gel and adhesive band for local application because Turmeric reduces both-Pain & Swelling due to Inflammation.

4)Joint-pains-Cherries are natural anti-oxidants & remove all the scum collected in the blood stream after foods are digested.

Therefore there is a reason for farmers in Punjab growing more Strawberries !!

5 )Sore Muscles- Peppermint is multidimensional in its properties. It helps to ward off germs in the mouth & this is the reason for it being a favorite ingredient in toothpastes & mouthwashes. Peppermint does kill germs in the environment.

Peppermint oil is available in its pure form and a gentle rub on aching muscles does take away pain and swelling.

6 ) Bloating - Pineapple is one of the richest source of Vitamin C,has less fiber that can be digested easily & this fiber works like a broom to absorb the scum in loaded stomach as gases and as extra acids & bile.

Consumption of Pineapple has no side effects except for pregnant woman,it is a forbidden fruit,along with Papaya,because of risks of miscarriage.

Eating a pineapple does give a feeling of fullness & helps in reducing the weight,because of minimal calories & more bulk.

7 ) Sinus pain & horseradish- I have no idea about this vegetable ?

8 ) UTI & Blueberries-proofs are emerging in allopathic medicine about role of blueberries in giving relief to chronic cases of repeated urinary tract infections for no reasons.

Cranberries,Blueberries ,Strawberries are now easily available in India.

9 ) Injury and water as a relief material 

We are familiar with water babies. Labor pains are reduced if the woman is immersed in water,provided other criteria are favorable and there is no risk of infection to the mother to be or to the baby.

Cold compressors and hot fomentations do use water as a therapy for pain.
